The beginning of a new school year can be a busy time.
Between shopping for supplies, getting backpacks ready, and settling back into a routine, it can be nice to have a simple activity that kids can enjoy.
These Back to School Corner Bookmarks are a fun and easy project for kids. They’re made by simply cutting, folding, and gluing a paper template.
And the best part is that I created four school-themed designs for this project: a pencil, a notebook, a ruler, and a calculator. Aren’t they cute?
One of my favorite things about this project is that the finished craft isn’t just something that sits on a shelf.
These corner bookmarks are made to be used!
Kids can put one on the corner of their favorite storybook, a chapter book, or even their current school reading book. The little pocket slides over the corner of the page, making it easy to find where they left off.
And they are also a fun project for teachers!
You can make them during the first week of school, use them as part of a reading activity, or have kids make one during a classroom craft session.
Since the project is simple, it can be done in one sitting without needing a lot of preparation.
The perfect first day of school gifts to welcome your students back into the classroom!

Step-by-Step Guide to Creating Each Back To School Corner Bookmark
Calculator Corner Bookmark
Perfect for little mathematicians!
Start by printing the template and cutting the pieces.

Fold the square diagonally in half, making sure the calculator stays on top.

Fold both corners inwards along the edges of the calculator.

Unfold the previous step and flip the bookmark over.

Bring the top paper up to the center.

Insert the corners into the pocket.

Cut around the corners of the calculator to round them.

Glue the face on top.

This one is great for math class or STEM-themed reading!

Notebook Corner Bookmark
This design looks like a mini notebook and is perfect for kids who love journaling or creative writing.
Start by printing and cutting the template. You have a lot of tiny yellow rectangles that younger kids might need help with.

Fold the bookmark in half diagonally, making sure the pink square stays on top.

Fold both corners inwards along the edges of the pink square.

Unfold the previous step and flip over the bookmark.

Bring the top paper up to the center.

Insert the corners into the pocket.

Glue the yellow rectangles on the left side and the face on top of the pink square.

Your pink notebook bookmark is ready to read some books!

Ruler Corner Bookmark
The Ruler bookmark adds a fun school-supply twist for those who love geometry and math.
Print the template, then cut out the bookmark and the eyes.

Fold the square in half diagonally, making sure the ruler stays on top.

Fold both corners inwards along the ruler’s edges.

Unfold the entire bookmark.

Cut the outer corner next to the ruler.

Fold the bookmark into a triangle.

Flip it over with the illustration facing down.

Bring the paper down to the center.

Insert the corners into the pocket.

Glue the eyes covering the cheeks a little bit.

Now your ruler bookmark is ready to use!

Pencil Corner Bookmark
The Pencil bookmark is perfect for kids who love writing or doodling.

This design is an origami bookmark. Unlike the previous designs, we won’t use glue, but we definitely need to follow a couple more folding steps.
That’s why I created a dedicated blog post for it.
