For the past couple of weeks, we have been making many scarecrow crafts (you can check them out at the end of this post), and it’s been so much fun that I also decided to create a game!
Introducing Roll a Scarecrow, a printable game designed especially for kids. It is as fun as it is educational.😉
This game is perfect for fall and Halloween festivities, and it’s simple enough for younger kids to enjoy while also keeping older ones engaged.
The best part of this game is that it can be played solo or in groups!
When played in groups, it encourages kids to take turns and practice patience while waiting for others to roll the die.
This makes it ideal for playdates, classroom settings, family game nights, Halloween parties, along with this fun Roll a Skeleton game, or even Fall Festivals paired with the Roll a Turkey game.
As you can tell, we love these kind of games! 😅
They are a fun way to keep your kids engaged, help them develop skills, and add a touch of seasonal fun to your home.
Kids get to cut out their scarecrow pieces, roll a die, and carefully glue or place each piece together. All these little actions build fine motor skills.
They will also practice math without even realizing it!
Rolling the die and counting the dots on the faces helps younger kids improve their number recognition.
On top of that, they’ll use basic math skills as they tally up which parts they still need and which ones they’ve already added.
It’s such a simple way to incorporate learning into playtime without making it feel like homework!

Roll a Scarecrow Game Supplies
To play this game, you will only need 3 simple items and a printer.
- Printable Roll a Scarecrow Set that includes a game card and the snowman shapes ready to cut.
This game also has a black-and-white version, so you can print the one you like the most.
- One die. You can share a regular die with all the players or print the page with the die included in the game to let everyone assemble their own.
- Scissors to cut the pieces.
- Glue, only if folding your die.
- Coloring pencils or crayons if using the black and white version.
How To Play Roll A Scarecrow
- Print out the game pieces.
You’ll get everything you need in the printable, including scarecrow parts, a page with space to build the scarecrow and the game code, and a die.
Keep in mind that each file includes 2 versions of the Shapes card, one that includes a die and another one that doesn’t. Pick the correct page when printing.
Let your kids color and decorate their scarecrow pieces if you use the black-and-white version.
- Cut out the pieces.
Younger kids may need extra help with the smaller parts, such as the hands and birds.
- Assemble the die.
- Play the game!
Each player takes turns rolling the die, and according to the number they get, they should add a specific part to their scarecrow based on the game code.
For example, if you roll the die and get the number 6, you should add a bird.
If they roll a number for a part they’ve already added, they skip their turn.
The goal is to be the first player to complete your scarecrow with all the pieces.
Roll A Scarecrow Variations
- If your kid is playing on its own. Let them roll the die at their own pace until they finish their scarecrow.
- If you’ve only printed one set and have unexpected guests, use a timer to see how long each person takes to build their scarecrow. The player who finishes the fastest wins!
- You can add a twist: have everyone roll their pieces in a specific order. Or make a rule that once a piece is placed, it can’t be moved.
