Thanksgiving Hat Template

Looking for an activity that your kids can make while you prepare that big Thanksgiving Meal? These Thanksgiving hats are perfect!

I included templates to make a pilgrim hat, a pilgrim bonnet, a turkey headband, and a Native American headdress.

They are easy crafts to keep your kids busy while they wait, and can be reused as table decorations once they are done playing with them.

If you are a teacher, you can also use them as a simple class activity to start the conversation about Thanksgiving with your students.

To make them, you’ll only need a few items including cardstock, scissors, and glue, or a stapler.

These hats only require cutting and gluing, which makes them perfect for grade-school kids. If you are trying it with preschoolers or younger children, they may need extra help with the cutting part of the project.

DIY Thanksgiving Hats

Pilgrim Hat

First, download the template at the end of this post and print it on white cardstock.

Cut the hat and the bands out. Let your kids color and decorate the bands if they want.

Glue or staple the bands to the sides of the hat. Measure the hat around your child’s head before attaching the ends together on the back.

Pilgrim Bonnet

Download and print the template on white cardstock.

Trim out the top of the page and cut through the vertical lines on the bottom.

Fold up the top edge to create a brim.

Fold the bottom corners inward and secure them with glue or tape.

Then, fold down the back flap and secure it as well.

Punch holes at each side of the bonnet and thread ribbon through them.

Tie the ribbon ends to secure and conceal the knots under the brim flap.

Turkey Headband

Print and cut the pieces for the headband.

Glue or staple one end of each band together.

Place the long band around your kid’s head to measure the correct size and attach it to the turkey.

Native American Headband

Download, print the template, and cut the feathers and the bands.

Glue or staple the three bands together, placing the white ones on the sides.

Secure the feathers behind the center of the headband.

Glue the edges of the headband together. Make sure it fits around your child’s head, trim it if it’s too big, or attach a third strip to make it longer.
